We have collaborated extensively with both government and private schools, providing strategic advisory support to educational authorities at every level. Our impact is deeply rooted in hands-on experience, having personally mentored and taught thousands of students across diverse learning environments. This dual perspective enables us to bridge classroom realities with system-wide reform, encompassing curriculum design, assessment methodologies, funding strategies, and institutional capacity building in developing markets.
Case Stories and Key Insights
Although both for-profit and non-profit innovators have introduced promising solutions, our experience working with and advising stakeholders in this sector highlights a persistent gap between the scale of the challenge and the measurable impact achieved. The opportunity to close this gap through data-driven, equity-focused innovation remains both urgent and enduring. Findings from our own pilots, along with those of our collaborators and competitors across South Asia and Africa, reveal that while a majority of secondary school students seek external tutoring support, many still struggle with basic arithmetic proficiency even post reaching high school. In several developing contexts, even low-cost tutoring options, typically priced around $30 per month, remain out of reach for families at the lower end of the income spectrum. Bridging this learning deficit demands systemic investment in public education infrastructure alongside scalable, no-cost upskilling interventions.
Learnings and Challenges
While upskilling children in technology offers an immediate pathway, the more challenging and enduring solution lies in building robust systems and structures to measure and standardize learning outcomes across subjects, grade levels, and geographies well beyond traditional standardized assessments. More often than not, educators devote a substantial portion of their time to administrative tasks and classroom teaching, leaving little opportunity to analyze student learning outcomes or design programs that engage students beyond the standard curriculum. Additionally, many of the courses students take in schools do not translate directly into employable skills. In summary, scalable, low-cost interventions can be designed to complement core academic competencies while building the skills essential for future employability.
Approach and Way Forward | A Blueprint for the Future
Many organizations have infrastructure and dedicated staff, yet what they often lack are the systems and processes necessary to actively engage students. This is where we step in. Funding alone is insufficient unless funders also take on the role of educators. While parental support for systems and processes is invaluable, it is ultimately the responsibility of educators and policymakers to design frameworks that can scale impact effectively. A powerful example of this is a now-renowned educator who, in the final months of his life, single-handedly launched courses and placed hundreds of students during one of the most challenging periods our educational systems have faced. His work has been widely lauded as a testament to the power of individual initiative in reshaping education systems. That said, connect with us to explore actionable strategies and fresh perspectives.
